Clean Guy Gets Violin Back

Lost instruments in taxis, chapter 94: the New York Times reports that Korean violinist Hanh-Bin recently left his loaner $600K Pressenda in a taxi on the way home from a concert. It was a happy ending, but several things intrigued me about this story.BubbleAccording to the article, Mr. Hahn-Bin was exhausted from his bus/taxi trip in after a concert in the Hamptons, and after arriving at his apartment at about 12.40 AM he took a shower. Then he called 311, after realizing he exited the cab having left both his credit card and violin. Now, I’ve come back from lots of late-night gigs, and the shower thing kind of struck me. I’m just sayin’. Also, that must be some serious Pressenda for $600K. Perhaps the most valuable one in the whole world.

Anyway, he got the fiddle back within an hour thanks to the miracle of GPS in (some) taxis. I guess that removes the only reason left to ask for one of those Soviet-toilet-paper taxi receipts you still get in NYC, and you can never read them anyway. And if that had been me just noticing I’d lost a borrowed violin in a cab, I’d not only skip the shower, but would’ve probably changed a digit and dialed 911 for my own ambulance.
