Congrats to WCLV

… and Happy New Year to all of our friends in classical radio!

From Robert Conrad:

Well, WCLV has crossed the Rubicon and is now the nation’s newest public radio station.

It happened at Midnight on New Year’s Day, on which we re-broadcast the eleven hour November 1st WCLV at 50 live broadcasts of performances by area musical groups, utilizing all three of the ideastream studios in a round robin sequence. Informal fund raising has been steady and above expectations. And we do our first official extended fund raiser in February.

My thanks to Steve Cumming and Robert Ready for their comments. Steve: You should know that as part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we did broadcast  clips from over the years, and you were included.

My first public radio experience as a listener was to Karl Haas on WJR in Detroit, and WCLV carried that torch for half a century.  Congratulations to all of you in Cleveland for a smooth transition, and welcome to the sunny side of public radio!

  1. Addendum: WCLV is now being re-broadcast on sister station WCPN’s HD 2 channel. WCPN’s signal covers an area up the east lake shore that we lost when we changed frequency back in 2001.
