Back on the horse?? Some news bits from east and west:
KCPB, Coast Community Radio in Oregon is adding two hours a day to its classical roster from 8 to 10 pm, and will include live performances from various orchestras and festivals. KCPB is a dual-format station that now airs 9 hours a day of classical music on weekdays. From the publication Coast Weekend:
According to Coast Community Radio Program Director Elizabeth Menetrey, the change in format comes in response to growing demand for classical programs from KCPB listeners.
I think the moral of this story is that we’re supposed to ask for more from our stations — in more ways than one (IMHO).
And on the east coast, Vermont’s only commercial classical station — WCVT located in Waterbury VT — doubled its signal to 50,000 watts by moving their transmitter from the Bolton ski area to Mount Mansfield. VP Eric Michaels told WCAX.com that this should reach people in New Hampshire and New York, as well.
“I do remember when Ken and I announced we were going to start a classical commercial music station in Vermont back in 1997. Let’s say we were told you guys will change your mind within six months. It’s been 15 years next year and here we are increasing the power. So, pretty happy with that,” Michaels said.
Founders Eric Michaels and Ken Squier are VP and President respectively of the Vermont Radio Group.
