Just a brief post for a busy Monday. If you want to have some fun, try imagining what you would program if you could program the new NY station. A great post in the NY Times on Friday asked listeners what they would like, and the responses are a lot of fun to read. Check it out here.
Happy Monday, all. Hope you’re having a great summer.

I think that I have laid it out pretty well.

Here are my thoughts on what WQXR currently programs and what the new station should try and focus on now that is has 18 minutes fewer commercials every hour. My point is that it allows the station to stretch out and do longer, more substantial works:
WQXR would play: Sibelius’ Finlandia
Why not: Sibelius Symphony Nos. 2 or 5; The Oceanides or Tapiola tone poems
WQXR would play: Brahms Hungarian Dances
Why not: Symphony No. 1, Piano Concertos, sonatas, Ein Deusche Requiem (evening at least)
WQXR would play: Schubert Impromptu or piano trio
Why not: Symphony No. 9, Octet
WQXR would play: Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole, Mother Goose
Why not: Gaspard de la nuit, String Quartet, Piano Concertos
WQXR: Suppe, Humperink, Johann Strauss, Bizet
Why not: Bartok’s more accessible pieces, Hindemith, Britten, Villa Lobos, Barber
How about playing each of these pieces by each of these composers — properly dayparted?
